Project Statement

Stripped-Down Shelters (S*D*S) are part of an on-going project to consider technologically intensive yet minimally spatialized shelters. Mechanisms, prefabricated assembly systems, and transformable componentry are all factors toward a specific and self-contained architectural entity.

SDS.09 is an adjustable living unit that is designed for moderately-watered conditions (urban and rural). It comes equipped with smart-sensor driven hydraulic-shock footings that automatically raise the unit in response to water-level rise of up to 43" (110 cm). When the level lowers the unit returns to its spring-loaded cradle. As seen in the Venetian "AQUA ALTA" scenario above, SDS.09 is outfitted with an operable moonroof for comfort, 126 sq. ft. of photovoltaic panels for energy harvesting, advertising space for income-generation, and custom graphics to order. Domestically, it features a bathroom/shower module.

WARNING: SDS.09 consists of multiple moving parts that may be a hazard in densely occupied areas. Always use caution when working with SDS.09. Always stand clear when SDS.09 is in operation. The makers of SDS.09 assume no liability for damages caused by the use of this product.
