dove - Stripped-Down Shelter - S*D*S . 04 Jason Vigneri-Beane <jcvb@splitstudio.com> Project Statement Stripped-Down Shelters (S*D*S) are part of an on-going project to consider technologically intensive yet minimally spatialized shelters. Mechanisms, prefabricated assembly systems, and transformable componentry are all factors toward a specific and self-contained architectural entity. SDS.04 : Living Volume (CLOSED) = 19'-9" x 12'-9" x 10'-4" (2,600 cubic feet) / / / Living Assembly (OPEN) = 19'-9" x 12'-9" x 15'-6" / / / Lawn Surface Area = 128 square feet (Grass Height : VARIES ) SDS.04 is a compact living space that is, in a sense, part bird, part (hatching) egg, and part basket. It features a molded interior, terrarium top, exterior lighting and an operable roof/door hatch that allows the occupant to open the living volume to the sky. It also comes with prefabricated lawn components. |
